Sataa, sataa ropisee.

Aukion laidalla on Bunkart 2 nimellä kulkeva kommunistiajan loppupuolella rakennettu maanalainen suoja mahdollisen ydinsodan varalle. Nykyään siellä on näyttely Albanian historiasta ja kommunistisen johdon harjoittamasta hirmuvallasta jota voi verrata Pohjois Korean tilanteeseen.

Synkän museokierroksen jälkeen kävelimme ympäri keskustaa ja söimme illallista yhdessä kävelykadun varrella olevassa ravintolassa.

Its raining and raining.
After breakfast we packed our bikes in the rain and started to ride towards Albania.
After some miss turns we found way out of Pristina and highway towards the border of Albania.
Customs clearance was really simple and quick.
Because of the rain we did not took photos on the road and had only one stop soon after the border crossing.
Highway was winding around the hills and even the cutting of the soil was done using steps there were some rocks fallen down to the asphalt.
Getting near to Tirana the traffic moved out to be driving with no rules and  the navigator guided us to small streets with awful condition. Luckily the rain stopped.
Finaly we reached the end point shown by navigator but our hotel was not visible just like yesterday. We asked help from a taxi driver who was standing by the street. He promised to guide us to the hotel, but he showed us a wrong one.
So Jari as a former soldier stared to do scouting and he found the hotel a couple hundred meters from the point where we first stopped.
We rode our bikes to a closed garage and booked in the hotel, first time ever I saw a hotel room with steel door with protection pins...
My boots are so much used that they are no more water tight so I had to dry them and driving socks using hair dryer.

We went walking to the city center Skanderberger square where there is an old communist era built underground bunker called Bunkart 2 to protect partly leaders for possible atom war. Today there is an exhibition about military history or Albania and the terror of communists that can be compared to the situation in North Korea.

After the groom museum tour we walked around the city center and had supper together in one of the numerous restaurants.

Beranesta ajoittaisessa tihkusateessa liikkeelle kohti Kosovon Pristinaa.

Tarkoituksenamme oli ajaa vuoriston ytli suorinta reittiä mutta navigaattorit ohjasivat meidän Serbian kautta kulkevalle reitille. Emme tietenkään tarkistanut asiaa heti vaan ensimmäinen epäilys syntyi kun Montenegron rajalla kysyivät miksi ajamme tätä reittiä Kosovoon. Mieleeni tuli heti synkkä ajatus kuinka jatko sujuisi.

Water has removed other lane of the road

A lot of tomb of the sellers for shields of tombs at side of the road
Hey you who have lost your alumium disks!
Come here, your disks are already here

From Berane to Kosovo and there city of Pristina in small rain.

Our aim was to ride over the mountains using the shortest road but our navigators guided us to Serbia. Of course we did not check that in time and first idea that something is wrong came to my mind at the border of Montenegro as the customs officer asked me, why are we riding this way to Kosovo.
I just got the dark idea, what's next...
We came to Serbia without any problems and the road was almost empty.

We continued to ride towards the quiet border station of Serbia and Kosovo where the countries had one common building as border station. All dark ideas of turning back faded away as the officers we friendly and factual even guiding us where to get local traffic insurance. Kosovo was the only country where our Finnish EU-insurance was not valid.
The police man even woke up the insurance seller sleeping in back room. 15 day insurance cost 10 Euros and we were to ride on.
I tried to draw our ride using Google map to be inserted in this blog but crossing the border  from Serbia to Kosovo was impossible. They are a bit behind of time...
In Kosovo the road and scenery turned out to be city like long before we reached to Pristina.
In the city we rode to the address shown by navigator but no sight of the hotel.
Just as we stopped a bicyclist came to me and asked if we are going to the hotel Prima.
I answered him yes and he asked us to follow him. We rode a couple after blocks after him and arrived to hotel. He jumped of his bike and asked us to wait a minute as he'll move the big BMW from the pavement so that we can ride our bikes to the yard of the hotel.
So he turned out to be one of the owners of the hotel who by chance noticed us while riding some business in the city.

Later in the evening came to the same hotel friends of Mika, Kalevi and Jari having their 4 week ride at the Balkan peninsula.
In the evening we had together super in a brilliant restaurant not so far away from the hotel and desided to ride together to Albania the next day.

Pilvinen aamu Mostarissa. Aamiaisen jälkeen liikkeelle kohti Montenegroa missä määränpäänä Beranen kaupunki lähellä Kosovon rajaa.

Mostarissa teimme pikapysähdyksen autoromuttamon kohdalla missä bongasimme Jugoslavian aikaisten Zastavien hautausmaan.

Rajanylitys Bosnia Herzegoviniasta Montenegroon sujui mutkattomasti, tosin Montenegrossa kuljettajan ja ajoneuvon tiedot kirjattiin käsin vihkoon.

Mika riding his BMW Adventure

Pekka and Helena riding BMW

Loppumatkalla reittimme kulki vuorten ylitse hyvin kapeaa "päällystettyä" tietä pitkin vuorten yli ennenkuin saavuimme Beraneen.

Cloudy morning in Mostar.
We headed towards Montenegro and city of Berane close to the border of Kosovo.
We had a quick stop close to a car srap yard to get some photos of grave yard of old Yogoslavian era cars, Yogo's and Zastava's

Border crossing fro Bosn ia-Hertsegovina to Montenegro was smooth, only the officer wrote our bike information by hand to a notebook like in old days.

In Montenegro we rode so far both the best and words roads. The road starting from border was almost new with lot of curves even though there was not mountains.
Next road was under construction with lot of holes, no traffic guidance and as there was only one lane in use, the circus was ready.
We managed that using local driving culture 💪😀😜

We rode through a rugged canyon with lot of tunnels and sometimes the cliff arching over the road.
The rest of our ride was over the mountains using a narrow more or less asphalted road to reach the city of Berane.

In the city of Berane there was a police car in almost every junction just opposite to countryside where we sow no police at all.
As we reached the city the rain showers turn out to be continuous and that lasted whole night. Days temperature variated from 15 degrees in the morning to 25 degrees in the afternoon.

Aurinkoinen aamu Rijekassa.
Mostar on hieno osmanien perustama kaupunki pitkällä historialla, tosin 90-luvun sodan jäljet näkyvät kaikkialla.
Majoituimme Hotelli Hanaan, pieni  uusi hotelli hieman piilossa vanhojen rakennusten takana, hinta laatusuhde erittäin hyvä.

Sunny morning at Rijeka. To breakfast as early as possible 7:00 and on the way at 8:00

We rode the coast line first 200 km. The scenery was really beautiful and the windy road had a lot of bikers riding both directions. Especially a lot of Germans were rididing, some of them with no hurry but some of them racing against each other.

Next etap was passing city of Split to the border of Bosnia-Hertzegovina using highway where speed exceeded the limit of 130 km/h.
At the border it took a while to find our Green Cards as first time needed, it took a while but of course we had them and we continued riding in a comfortable +25 degree temperature.
Surrounding area turned to be totally different as the highway ended and we continued on the old road.
Mostar is really fine city established by the Osmans with a long history, but remains of last war in 90's are visible everywhere.
We had rooms in Hotel Hana, a small partly new, partly fully renovated building hiding behind old buildings with really good price quality ratio.
In the evening we walked to the center, of course to the re-built famous Old Bridge and eated once again well and too much 😂
Water of the river is green and bright but having some modern life trashes floating downstream.
City was crowded with tourists even though the season is only starting.
No way to write this blog in the evening as I just fall asleep...
